Experience the Pros of Freelancing: A Path to Independence and Success

The world is rapidly changing, with more people leaving full-time employment in favor of becoming self-employed. This means that those who work as freelancers will need to be able to take on more projects and deliver results faster than they would if they were employed in a company. To do this, they will need to be able to work well under pressure, have the ability to meet deadlines and be a good negotiator.

A key benefit of freelancing is that you can set your own hours and choose the clients you want to work with. For many who are used to the rigidity of a full-time job, this can be a real breath of fresh air. It also allows you to create a work-life balance that fits with your personal schedule.

Often, freelancers are motivated to work hard because they know that they are responsible for their own income and financial well-being. This can help prevent you from burning out due to unrealistic expectations in the office, or having your bonus slashed because a company is making a loss. However, with this freedom can come a lack of accountability and focus.

If you are not disciplined enough to have a regular routine or track your progress on a weekly basis, it is easy for your freelance career to slip out of control and spiral downwards into a never-ending pit of despair.

Another advantage of working as a freelancer is that you can build a portfolio of clients and work for multiple employers, reducing the risk of being financially dependent on one source of income. This also means that if you have one client that is dragging their feet or becomes difficult to work with, you will have other sources of income to keep you going.

If you have a passion for your work, you can choose the projects that you want to pursue, and you can make more money than you would in a traditional full-time position. You can also choose to take on projects that will help you to develop a specific skill set rather than waiting for annual corporate training opportunities.

Some freelancers struggle with feelings of isolation when they are working alone all day. They may find that they are unable to stop thinking about the work and become irritable when they are nearing their deadlines. This can lead to a deterioration in the quality of their work and a lack of future work.

Often, freelancers will have to pay for their own health and life insurance policies, which can be expensive. They may also have to deal with the administration side of their work, such as issuing invoices and filing taxes. In some countries, this is mandatory so if you are not prepared to deal with these issues, it might be better for you to find a full-time job.

Born in Los Angeles, California and currently residing in Foresthill California my path to becoming an online marketing consultant was anything but linear. I started my journey in manufacturing, sales and marketing spending 7 years overseas in the late 1990’s thru the early 2000’s. Then the world changed with new technologies, smart phones & social media etc. What has always guided me, though, is my belief in doing what I love and paying it forward which resonates through my personal and professional life.
